Dodge City, Kansas – Strong winds and scattered severe thunderstorms could disrupt western Kansas late tonight, with the greatest risk focused between 10 p.m. and 1 a.m. Monday. Areas from Scott City to Syracuse are under a slight risk, with wind gusts possibly reaching 60 mph.
According to the National Weather Service in Dodge City, a marginal to slight risk for severe storms covers much of west-central Kansas. The primary threat will be damaging straight-line winds, especially for Scott, Finney, and Hamilton counties. Smaller towns like Tribune and Ulysses are also in the favored zone for severe weather late this evening.
Drivers along U.S. Highway 83 and U.S. Highway 50 should prepare for sudden strong wind gusts and brief heavy rain after dark. Power outages or minor property damage may occur if storms intensify. Residents are advised to secure loose outdoor items and stay indoors during the warning window.
This is the first notable severe weather event for the region in July, echoing similar early summer storms from previous years. NWS urges Kansans to monitor local alerts and avoid travel in affected areas during peak storm hours.
Storms are expected to taper off by 1 a.m., but additional updates or advisories could follow if new storms develop overnight.
