Manhattan, Kan. – Evening plans across northeast Kansas could be disrupted as severe storms capable of producing 70 mph wind gusts sweep through the region under a Severe Thunderstorm Watch active until 10 p.m. Monday.

According to the National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center, scattered strong to severe thunderstorms are expected to develop across areas between Manhattan and St. Joseph. The main hazards include damaging winds and isolated hail up to 1 inch in diameter.

Communities in counties such as Riley, Brown, Jackson, and Doniphan are urged to monitor conditions closely. The strongest storms could knock out power, snap tree limbs, and create hazardous travel, especially along US-36 and Highway 75. Residents are advised to secure outdoor objects and remain indoors during warnings.

The watch zone stretches roughly 70 miles east and west of a line from northwest of St. Joseph, Missouri, to south of Manhattan, Kansas. While tornadoes are not expected, some storms could produce wind damage similar in severity.

Severe weather threats are expected to taper off after 10 p.m., but updates and additional warnings remain possible throughout the evening.
