Dodge City, Kansas – Residents across southwest and central Kansas should prepare for a fresh round of strong to severe thunderstorms after 5 p.m. Sunday, with damaging winds and large hail topping the list of concerns as storms push through the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Dodge City, the highest risk will develop late in the afternoon and persist through the evening, mainly impacting areas along and west of U.S. Highway 283—including Garden City, Dodge City, Ulysses, and Liberal. While some storms could pop up earlier, the most intense activity is likely after sunset, bringing wind gusts strong enough to down trees or power lines and hail large enough to cause property damage.

Drivers should avoid unnecessary travel late Sunday, especially on rural highways, and anyone outdoors is urged to move indoors quickly if storms approach. Emergency officials recommend securing loose outdoor items, charging devices, and monitoring weather alerts from multiple sources.

This round of severe weather is expected to wind down overnight, but more updates and possible advisories may follow as the pattern remains unsettled into the workweek.
