Dodge City, Kan. – Scattered severe storms could bring tornadoes, large hail, and damaging winds to parts of southwest and central Kansas through 8 p.m. Sunday, with Dodge City and surrounding areas at the highest local risk level. Hail up to 2 inches in diameter and winds strong enough to down trees and power lines are likely this afternoon and evening.
According to the National Weather Service in Dodge City, storms are expected to develop between 3 and 5 p.m., especially along a corridor stretching from Liberal to Hays. Counties under the Level 3 “Enhanced Risk” include Ford, Finney, and Barton. The primary hazards are large to very large hail and the potential for tornadoes, some of which could be strong.
Drivers on U.S. Route 50 and U.S. Route 283 should remain alert for rapidly changing weather conditions, reduced visibility, and debris on the roads. Residents in impacted areas are urged to secure outdoor items, charge mobile devices, and identify their nearest shelter location.
This storm system is the most significant to hit the region since mid-April and could prompt additional warnings later in the evening. Stay weather-aware and monitor NOAA radio, local media, or mobile alerts for updates.
