Dodge City, Kansas – Large hail and damaging wind gusts up to 60 mph could sweep through south central Kansas Monday evening as isolated severe storms target the Red Hills region between 4 and 9 p.m.
According to the National Weather Service in Dodge City, a Marginal Risk (Level 1 of 5) for severe weather has been issued for much of the region, including Pratt, Barber, Comanche, and Clark counties. Storms are expected to develop across central Kansas and move southward at 20 to 30 mph through the evening hours.
Primary hazards include hail up to 1.5 inches in diameter and strong wind gusts capable of damaging trees, power lines, and unsecured outdoor items. While storms are expected to remain widely scattered, any cell that does intensify could bring brief but intense impacts to rural and urban areas alike.
Residents in Dodge City, Greensburg, and Medicine Lodge should monitor local alerts and avoid outdoor activities during the peak risk window. Drivers along U.S. Route 283 and U.S. 160 should also be prepared for rapidly changing conditions and low visibility during downpours.
The storm threat is expected to taper off by late evening, but additional updates may follow if storm coverage increases.
