Wichita, KS – September brought widespread and, in some places, record-level rainfall across Kansas, according to the National Weather Service in Wichita.

According to NWS data released Wednesday, the highest September rainfall was recorded in Beverly, where nearly 14 inches fell over the month. Barnard followed closely with just over 13 inches. Other locations such as Brookville, Marquette, and Ellsworth all measured more than 9 inches of rainfall.

The heaviest rainfall totals were concentrated in central Kansas, including areas near Salina, Hutchinson, and Great Bend. A precipitation map released by NWS highlights central counties in shades of red and purple, indicating totals ranging from 6 to over 10 inches.

In Brookville, 10.16 inches were reported, while Marquette locations received between 9.5 and 9.8 inches. Ellsworth and Kingman also recorded more than 9 inches during September. The widespread precipitation comes after a summer marked by drought conditions in parts of the state, offering short-term relief for farmers but also raising concerns about localized flooding.

Meteorologists note that September’s rainfall totals were well above average for much of the state. With October beginning, forecasters are watching for cooler temperatures and the possibility of continued wet weather into the fall season.
