Kansas – Widespread rain is expected across much of Kansas today, followed by a chance for light snow on Friday as a weather system moves through the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Wichita, rain will be common Thursday, with the highest totals forecast along and east of Interstate 135 and near Interstate 70. Rainfall amounts are expected to range from up to 0.5 inches in western areas to around 1 inch or more across parts of central and eastern Kansas.

Forecasters say most locations will remain rain-only today, with wet road conditions likely during daytime and evening hours.

On Friday, colder air moving into the region may allow a corridor of snowfall accumulation up to 1 inch, mainly near and north of I-70 and portions of central Kansas. Areas farther south and west are expected to remain mostly dry as the system exits.

The National Weather Service noted that while snow amounts are expected to be light, slick spots could develop on untreated roads during early Friday, particularly during the morning hours.

Residents are encouraged to monitor updated forecasts as the rain-to-snow transition becomes clearer and travel conditions evolve.
