Lucien, OK – A magnitude 2.8 earthquake was recorded early Saturday morning northwest of Lucien, Oklahoma, according to the Oklahoma Geological Survey. The quake struck around 6:30 a.m. local time (11:30 UTC) at a shallow depth of 1.3 kilometers, sending light tremors across northern Oklahoma and southern Kansas.
According to the US Geological Survey, the epicenter was about 4 km west-northwest of Lucien, positioned roughly between Enid and Stillwater along the I-35 corridor, a major route connecting Wichita, Kansas, and Oklahoma City. While the quake’s magnitude was relatively low, shallow quakes of this type can occasionally be felt by residents near the epicenter.
No damage or injuries have been reported as of Saturday morning, and officials continue to monitor aftershock activity in the region. Residents who felt shaking are encouraged to submit a “Did You Feel It?” report to the USGS to assist with seismic data collection.
The Oklahoma Geological Survey notes that while earthquakes in this area are infrequent, northern Oklahoma has seen occasional minor seismic activity over the past decade, sometimes linked to regional fault lines and subsurface conditions.
