Dodge City, Kansas – Scattered severe thunderstorms are expected to impact parts of southwest Kansas and south-central Nebraska this evening through early Monday morning, with damaging winds up to 70 mph posing the biggest risk.

According to the National Weather Service in Dodge City and Hastings, a Slight Risk (Level 2 of 5) is in effect from 4 p.m. Sunday to 4 a.m. Monday across areas including Dodge City, McCook, Hastings, and Concordia. While storm coverage may be limited early, activity is expected to increase after sunset, bringing localized wind damage, quarter-size hail, and possible flash flooding.

Cities like Garden City, Great Bend, and Hill City in Kansas—as well as Kearney, York, and Hebron in Nebraska—could see strong wind gusts and periods of heavy rainfall. Tornado risk remains very low, but residents should stay weather-aware and have multiple ways to receive warnings.

Drivers are urged to avoid travel during peak storm activity. Secure outdoor items and charge electronics ahead of potential outages. This system is tied to a cold front drifting across the region, and slight positional shifts could change where storms form.

Storm threats diminish by 4 a.m. Monday, but additional advisories may be issued if conditions evolve overnight.
