Hastings, NE – A Freeze Watch has been issued for late Wednesday night through Thursday morning across south-central Nebraska and north-central Kansas, as the coldest air of the season moves into the region. According to the National Weather Service in Hastings, temperatures are expected to fall into the 20s to near 30 degrees area-wide.
Forecasters warn that the widespread freeze could end the growing season for areas that have not yet experienced sub-freezing temperatures this fall. Unprotected vegetation, crops, and outdoor plumbing could sustain damage if not properly covered or drained.
The Freeze Watch covers much of south-central Nebraska—including Hastings, Kearney, and Holdrege—as well as nearby areas of north-central Kansas. Skies will remain clear overnight, allowing temperatures to drop sharply before sunrise Thursday.
Residents are encouraged to protect sensitive plants, outdoor pets, and exposed water lines ahead of the freeze.
