Goodland, KS – Residents across northwest Kansas and southwest Nebraska should prepare for a chilly night as the National Weather Service (NWS) in Goodland has issued frost advisories effective from 10 p.m. Tuesday to 11 a.m. Wednesday.

According to the NWS, temperatures could fall as low as 34 degrees, leading to widespread frost formation. The advisory covers Cheyenne, Rawlins, Decatur, Graham, and Norton Counties in Kansas, along with Dundy, Hitchcock, and Red Willow Counties in Nebraska.

Frost could damage or kill unprotected outdoor vegetation, especially tender garden plants and flowers. Officials urge residents to cover plants or bring them indoors before temperatures drop late this evening.

While the frost risk is seasonal, forecasters note that this is one of the first widespread cold snaps of the fall for the region. Cooler, dry air will settle in overnight under clear skies, allowing for rapid temperature drops before sunrise Wednesday.

By mid-morning Wednesday, sunshine should help thaw most areas, with temperatures expected to rebound into the upper 50s by afternoon.

Residents are encouraged to stay updated through the National Weather Service Goodland office and local media for the latest advisories and forecast changes.
