KANSAS CITY, Mo.–Kan. – A streak of unseasonably warm, sunny fall weather will break Friday as thunderstorms roll through the Kansas City metro, bringing gusty winds, rain, and a drop in temperatures heading into the weekend. The storms could create slick travel on I-70, I-35, and I-49 during the Friday evening commute and early Saturday morning events.

According to the National Weather Service in Pleasant Hill, temperatures will climb into the low 80s through Thursday before a cold front sweeps east late Friday. Scattered thunderstorms will develop across eastern Kansas and western Missouri Friday afternoon, producing brief downpours and isolated lightning. Forecasters say severe weather is not expected, but a few stronger storms could occur along the frontal boundary before conditions clear overnight.

By Saturday, skies will gradually brighten with highs returning to the mid-70s and a noticeable drop in humidity. Sunday will feature cooler, crisp air and bright sunshine — perfect for pumpkin patches, football tailgates, and fall park outings. Temperatures will dip into the upper 40s by Sunday night as a true October chill sets in.

Residents should secure Halloween decorations ahead of Friday’s gusty winds and check event updates before evening travel. Motorists are urged to use caution on wet roads, especially near bridges and construction zones. Power interruptions are not anticipated, but minor tree limb damage is possible with stronger wind gusts.
