Springfield, MO – A line of thunderstorms is moving into southeast Kansas and western Missouri this morning, with forecasters warning of severe conditions during the early commute.

According to the National Weather Service in Springfield, the storms were tracked on radar around 1 a.m. Wednesday and are expected to arrive between 5 a.m. and 7 a.m. The system is pushing east from southern Kansas and northern Oklahoma.

Meteorologists warn that some of these storms could be severe, bringing damaging winds up to 70 mph and hail up to the size of quarters. The impact could affect travelers on Interstates 44 and 49 as well as residents in communities across southwest Missouri.

Officials urge residents to remain weather aware through the morning hours and have multiple ways to receive warnings. Power outages, tree damage, and hazardous driving conditions are possible in the hardest-hit areas.

The National Weather Service advises securing outdoor items, avoiding unnecessary travel during storms, and monitoring updates as conditions develop.
