Springfield, Missouri – Southwest Missouri faces sweltering heat today as a Heat Advisory remains in effect until 10 p.m., bringing heat index values between 95 and 105 degrees across central and southern Missouri and into eastern Kansas.

According to the National Weather Service in Springfield, temperatures will climb into the low to mid-90s, with overnight lows offering little relief—only dipping into the low 70s. Breezy southwesterly winds could gust up to 30 mph, increasing dehydration and fire danger risks.

Communities including Springfield, Lebanon, Clinton, and Nevada are under the advisory, where heat exhaustion and stroke remain top concerns. Area residents are urged to stay indoors during peak afternoon hours, check on vulnerable individuals, and never leave children or pets in vehicles.

Road crews and outdoor workers should take frequent hydration breaks, as early-week temperatures are expected to remain dangerously hot. Storm chances re-enter the forecast by Tuesday, but won’t significantly lower heat index values.

Heat risks continue into next weekend, with daily highs in the upper 80s to low 90s and no major cooling trend expected.
