Wichita, Kan. – Numerous rain showers and unseasonably cool temperatures are dampening Memorial Day plans across Kansas, with the wet pattern expected to continue through Thursday.

According to the National Weather Service in Wichita, central, south-central, and southeast Kansas—including cities like Wichita, Emporia, and Winfield—will see scattered to numerous showers and storms through Thursday evening. Highs today will struggle to reach the mid-60s in many areas, with Wichita and Eureka both expecting around 62°F.

Tuesday brings more morning showers with highs nudging into the upper 60s, followed by off-and-on storms Wednesday and Thursday, when highs will top out near 73°F. Friday offers a break, with sunny skies and temperatures rebounding into the upper 70s and low 80s.

Localized downpours could lead to ponding on roads, especially in low-lying areas. Drivers are urged to slow down and turn on headlights during heavy rain. Residents should also secure outdoor items and keep phones charged in case of isolated power outages.

This stretch marks one of the cooler and wetter Memorial Day weeks in recent years for Kansas. Rain chances taper off late Thursday night, with warmer, drier weather expected by Friday into the weekend.
