Kansas residents can expect seasonal weather for today and Saturday, but conditions will shift early next week with near-record warmth, gusty winds, and elevated fire risks. Windy conditions, especially on Monday and Tuesday, could increase grassfire danger across Central and South Central Kansas.

According to the National Weather Service, high winds reaching up to 25 mph on Monday and Tuesday, coupled with temperatures rising into the upper 80s, will pose a severe fire threat. Residents are urged to avoid open flames, dispose of cigarette butts properly, and refrain from outdoor burning to prevent potential grassfires.

The current forecast calls for highs between 65-75 degrees in Wichita through Saturday, with breezy but pleasant conditions expected to continue through Sunday. By Monday, however, the temperatures will spike to the upper 80s, accompanied by strong winds. The National Weather Service is warning of a “Very High Grassfire Danger” for Monday and Tuesday, as dry conditions persist.

Drivers along I-135 and Highway 54 are advised to stay alert for strong crosswinds and reduce speed when necessary, especially on Monday and Tuesday. With Halloween approaching, families should plan accordingly for potentially breezy trick-or-treating weather on Thursday, though temperatures are expected to cool slightly.
