Chapman, KS – A Flood Warning has been issued for Chapman Creek in Dickinson County as water levels are expected to crest at flood stage this evening, prompting caution for residents and motorists in the area.

According to the National Weather Service in Topeka, the river was measured at 18.9 feet at 3:45 p.m. Wednesday, just below the 19.0-foot flood stage. Minor flooding is forecast to occur, with Chapman Creek expected to reach that threshold by Wednesday evening and begin receding early Thursday morning.

The impacted area stretches from near the town of Industry, upstream of Chapman, to the Smoky Hill River downstream. Low-lying areas are especially vulnerable to water overflow during this period.

Motorists are strongly advised not to attempt to drive through flooded roadways or around barricades. Even shallow water can pose significant risks to both vehicles and personal safety.

As of the latest forecast, water levels are anticipated to fall to 10.7 feet by 7 a.m. Thursday and continue dropping to 7.2 feet by Thursday evening, alleviating the risk of further flooding. While this warning is expected to remain in effect until Thursday morning, residents are encouraged to monitor updates from local authorities and visit www.weather.gov/top for real-time information.

Flooding of this nature, although minor, can disrupt travel and access in low-lying communities. Emergency responders urge the public to stay alert and prepared in case conditions change.
