Dodge City, Kansas – Localized flash flooding may impact parts of south-central Kansas Friday afternoon, as thunderstorms develop over the Red Hills region beginning after 4 p.m. CDT.
According to the National Weather Service in Dodge City, a marginal risk for excessive rainfall has been issued by the Weather Prediction Center. The greatest concern centers on Comanche, Barber, and Clark counties, where slow-moving storms could dump enough rain in a short time to trigger flash flooding in low-lying or poorly drained areas.
Residents in Medicine Lodge, Coldwater, and Ashland should stay weather-aware and have multiple ways to receive emergency alerts. While tornado and hail threats remain low, flooding is rated as a slight risk — especially near creeks, dry stream beds, and roads prone to water accumulation.
Drivers should avoid flooded roadways and prepare for rapid water rises during any downpours. The storms may also reduce visibility and slow travel along U.S. Highway 160 and nearby rural routes.
This rain threat is expected to taper off Friday night. However, additional updates may follow if storms intensify or training (repeated) cells develop.
