Dodge City, KS – A Red Flag Warning is in effect for southwest Kansas until 8 p.m. Monday due to strong winds and extremely dry conditions. Outdoor burning is strongly discouraged.
According to the National Weather Service Dodge City, gusty winds combined with humidity levels between 10-15% will create high fire danger west of Highway 283. Any fires that start could spread quickly and become difficult to control.
Wind speeds will increase throughout the afternoon, further drying vegetation. Residents should avoid any outdoor burning and report any fires immediately to local authorities.
Officials urge caution, as these conditions significantly raise wildfire risks. Those in affected areas should remain alert and take preventative measures to protect property and livestock. Conditions are expected to improve overnight as winds gradually weaken.
