Goodland, Kan. – Drivers across northwest Kansas and eastern Colorado could face white-knuckle conditions through midday Sunday as dense fog settles in, slashing visibility to a quarter mile or less.

According to the National Weather Service in Goodland, a Dense Fog Advisory is in effect until noon MDT (1 p.m. CDT) Sunday for a wide swath including Colby, Goodland, Burlington, Sharon Springs, and surrounding areas. Conditions in eastern Colorado are expected to deteriorate Saturday night, while parts of northwest Kansas may not see the thickest fog until early Sunday morning.

Major highways like I-70, U.S. 36, and U.S. 385 could become especially hazardous, with sharply reduced sightlines making travel risky overnight and into the afternoon. Authorities urge drivers to slow down, use low-beam headlights, and maintain extra distance between vehicles.

The advisory spans both Cheyenne and Kit Carson counties in Colorado and multiple Kansas counties, including Sherman, Thomas, Rawlins, and Logan. Residents should delay non-essential travel and monitor local updates in case the advisory is extended or upgraded.

Dense fog is expected to gradually lift by early afternoon Sunday, but travelers should remain alert for changing conditions.
