Wichita, KS – Drivers across central Kansas woke up to dense fog Friday morning, creating hazardous travel conditions on I-35 and local roads. Visibility has dropped to a quarter mile or less in many areas, with conditions expected to persist until late morning.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), the Dense Fog Advisory will remain in effect until 11 a.m. today, impacting portions of central, south-central, and southeast Kansas. Low visibility could cause delays and increase the risk of accidents, particularly on major highways and rural routes. Officials advise drivers to reduce speed, use low beams, and maintain a safe following distance.

By Friday afternoon, the fog is expected to lift, giving way to partly cloudy skies with temperatures reaching the low 50s. Rain showers are possible later in the day, especially across eastern and central Kansas, as unseasonably warm conditions persist.

Looking ahead to Saturday, residents can expect mostly sunny skies with highs near 57 degrees. Saturday night will bring cooler temperatures in the upper 30s, followed by a sunny and mild Sunday with highs approaching 59 degrees.

The weather should remain calm through early next week, with temperatures staying above seasonal averages. Monday and Tuesday are forecast to be sunny with daytime highs near 60 degrees.

Travelers returning home after the holidays should exercise caution during today’s foggy conditions but can look forward to improved weather for the weekend. For updated forecasts and road conditions, visit weather.gov/wichita.
