Kansas City, MO –Dangerous heat and isolated thunderstorms are combining across Missouri Monday afternoon, bringing wind gusts up to 55 mph and heat index values topping 105°F in some areas. Eastern counties remain under a Heat Advisory until 7 p.m., with additional storms likely to develop overnight.

According to the National Weather Service in Kansas City, isolated showers and thunderstorms will continue into the early evening, with a few cells capable of producing damaging wind gusts between 50–55 mph. The threat extends across much of western and central Missouri, including areas near Columbia, Marshall, and Jefferson City. A secondary round of storms is possible late tonight into early Tuesday, potentially affecting morning commuters.

St. Joseph, Warrensburg, and Sedalia may see brief downpours and sudden wind shifts. While severe weather isn’t widespread, any isolated storm could rapidly intensify, especially during peak heating. Drivers are urged to stay weather-aware, and residents in the advisory zone should avoid strenuous outdoor activity until conditions ease.

Storm chances will taper off by Tuesday afternoon, but more summer heat is expected later this week.
