Kansas City, Missouri – Severe thunderstorms are expected to hammer western and central Missouri late Tuesday into early Wednesday, bringing threats of damaging winds, large hail, localized flooding, and a slight chance of isolated tornadoes.

According to the National Weather Service in Kansas City, warm and humid conditions will persist through Tuesday with highs in the upper 80s to low 90s. Storms are expected to intensify late Tuesday afternoon into the overnight hours, especially across central and western parts of the state. The primary threats include wind gusts over 60 mph, large hail, and rainfall totals ranging from 1.5 to 4 inches in some areas.

Cities like Columbia, Jefferson City, and Kansas City are at risk for heavy rainfall that could lead to flash flooding during the Wednesday morning commute. Areas in the enhanced risk zone (level 3 of 5) such as Sedalia and Warrensburg may experience the most dangerous weather, including potential power outages and road closures.

Residents are urged to secure outdoor objects, avoid low-lying roads, and ensure cell phones are charged ahead of possible outages. Travel may be hazardous overnight into early Wednesday.

Storm warnings remain in effect through Wednesday morning, and additional alerts may be issued if conditions worsen.
