Kansas City, Missouri – Drivers across Missouri are waking up to dense fog this morning, especially along and south of Highway 50, where visibility is severely reduced. The fog is expected to lift a few hours after sunrise, but another round may develop overnight into Saturday.

According to the National Weather Service in Kansas City, unseasonably cool air continues to dominate the state with near-record low temperatures through the weekend. Morning lows in the low-to-mid 40s are widespread across central and northern Missouri, with Kansas City dipping to 48°F this morning and only climbing to the mid-70s by afternoon.

While the weekend remains dry, light rain is on track to return Monday evening into Tuesday. Areas west of I-35, including St. Joseph, Atchison, and Maryville, carry a 50–70% chance of seeing at least 0.1″ of rainfall. Some localized spots near the Kansas border could pick up a quarter inch, but overall totals will stay light.

Travelers should remain alert for lingering fog each morning through the weekend and use headlights in low-visibility areas. No major flooding or storm hazards are expected with Monday’s rain, but roads may become slick late Monday night.

Cool temperatures stick around through early next week before a sharp warm-up begins by Wednesday.
