Kansas City, Mo. – Scattered rain showers are set to return across Missouri by midday Monday, continuing through Tuesday evening, with the heaviest rainfall expected west of Highway 65.

According to the National Weather Service in Kansas City, areas including St. Joseph, Kansas City, and Butler could see between 0.25 to 0.75 inches of rainfall by Tuesday night. Rain will be most widespread west of Highway 65, while eastern cities like Columbia and Kirksville may see only light precipitation amounts, closer to 0.10 inches.

Drivers along I-70 and I-35 should anticipate slick conditions during afternoon and evening commutes, particularly in and around the Kansas City metro and along U.S. Route 50. No severe weather is forecast, but localized ponding is possible in areas receiving heavier bursts of rain.

Residents are advised to keep umbrellas handy and allow extra travel time through Tuesday. If possible, avoid driving through water-covered roads, especially during evening hours.

A gradual warming trend is expected by late week, but another round of rain could arrive Thursday afternoon. Updates will follow if additional advisories are issued.
