KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Kansas City residents could wake to wet roads Tuesday morning as a round of late-night thunderstorms moves through the metro. After a warm start to the week, cooler and drier air will arrive by midweek, signaling a shift toward classic fall weather.

According to the National Weather Service in Pleasant Hill, scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms are expected to develop after 4 p.m. Monday, with the best chance for heavier rain between midnight and sunrise Tuesday. Rainfall amounts may reach up to a quarter inch in some neighborhoods, with brief downpours and lightning possible.

By Tuesday afternoon, showers should taper off as north winds pick up, ushering in noticeably cooler air. Highs will drop from the mid-80s Monday to the low 70s by Wednesday, with overnight lows dipping into the mid-50s. Motorists are advised to drive cautiously early Tuesday, especially on I-70 and I-35, where wet pavement and reduced visibility could slow commutes.

Sunny skies return Wednesday and continue through the weekend, bringing ideal conditions for outdoor activities. Additional rainfall isn’t expected until late next weekend.
