Kansas City, Missouri – A weakening line of storms is pushing into northern Missouri and northeast Kansas this morning, bringing wind gusts of up to 50 mph and limited rainfall along and north of I-70.

According to the National Weather Service in Kansas City, hot and humid conditions will dominate much of Thursday, with afternoon heat indices between 95 and 100 degrees. Spotty showers may continue into the afternoon, especially in areas like St. Joseph, Maryville, and Chillicothe.

By late tonight, another round of strong storms is expected to approach northwest Missouri. Areas near Rock Port, Falls City, and Maryville could see gusts as high as 60 mph with embedded strong thunderstorms. However, meteorologists say confidence in the storms fully reaching the Kansas City metro remains low, with a 20–30% chance.

Residents across the northern third of Missouri should remain alert through Friday night, when the highest chance of severe weather arrives. Storms then could bring more widespread damaging winds, lightning, and heavy rainfall.

Stay weather-aware and prepare for power outages. Keep devices charged and avoid travel during peak storm hours. Additional warnings may be issued through Friday evening.
