Kansas City, Mo. – Storms and steamy air will grip much of Missouri and eastern Kansas through Tuesday, with pockets of heavy rainfall and heat index values soaring above 100 degrees. Drivers and outdoor workers could face difficult conditions as storms develop across the region Monday night into Tuesday.

According to the National Weather Service in Pleasant Hill, scattered showers and thunderstorms will form across northwestern and central Missouri, with chances peaking Tuesday afternoon. Some storms may produce brief heavy downpours and gusty winds. While widespread hazardous weather is not expected, localized flooding and reduced visibility could impact commutes and travel.

South of U.S. Highway 50, heat index values may climb between 100 and 105 degrees Tuesday. In Kansas City, afternoon highs are expected near 93, with humidity pushing the “feels like” temperature to 101. Forecasters say cloud cover and scattered storms may help temper peak heat in some spots.

Residents are urged to limit outdoor activity during the hottest part of the day, stay hydrated, and watch for rapidly changing storm conditions. Thunderstorms are expected to taper Tuesday night, with quieter weather midweek.

Warnings and advisories remain possible as conditions evolve.
