Kansas City, Mo. – Thunderstorms will sweep across Missouri this afternoon and evening, with the National Weather Service warning of an isolated severe storm capable of producing damaging winds and hail.
According to the National Weather Service in Kansas City, scattered storms will continue through the evening, with most areas seeing periods of heavy rain and lightning. While widespread severe weather is not anticipated, forecasters caution that any storm could briefly intensify, particularly in western and central Missouri.
Communities including Kansas City, St. Joseph, Sedalia, and Columbia may see localized downpours during the evening commute, raising the risk of slick roads and minor flooding in low-lying areas. Drivers are advised to slow down during heavy rain and avoid standing water.
Additional rounds of non-severe thunderstorms are expected Friday and into the weekend. Temperatures will return to more seasonal levels, with highs ranging from the upper 70s to lower 80s, keeping conditions humid but closer to normal for mid-September.
Storm chances will persist into early next week, though severe threats remain low. Residents should stay weather aware in case stronger storms develop later today.
