Kansas City, Mo. – Light rain will move into western Missouri late Monday and continue overnight into Tuesday morning, with the heaviest amounts expected along and west of Interstate 35. Some areas could see a few tenths of an inch, while totals east of I-35 are expected to be lighter.

According to the National Weather Service in Kansas City, the chance for measurable rainfall is highest overnight, with precipitation probabilities peaking near 50 to 60 percent west of the metro area before tapering off by Tuesday afternoon. The wet weather may cause slick morning commutes in St. Joseph, Maryville, and parts of the Kansas City metro, though flooding is not anticipated.

By midweek, temperatures will climb well above seasonal norms. Highs are projected to return to the upper 80s and low 90s by Thursday, reaching the low to mid-90s Friday and Saturday. The heat will be most noticeable across Kansas City, Warrensburg, and Chillicothe, where normal highs this time of year typically hover in the low 80s.

Drivers should remain cautious during Tuesday morning’s commute, especially on elevated roads and bridges. Residents are advised to stay hydrated later this week as heat builds back into the region.

The wet weather exits by Tuesday afternoon, leaving a drier pattern in place through the weekend.
