Kansas City, Mo. – Light rain could move into western Missouri Monday night into Tuesday, but most areas east of Interstate 35 are likely to stay dry. The National Weather Service in Kansas City said the best chance for showers will be west of I-35, with amounts generally under a quarter of an inch.

According to forecasters, the rain window will be short-lived, with drier and warmer conditions quickly taking hold by midweek. Temperatures, which remain near normal through Monday, are expected to climb into the upper 80s and low 90s across much of Missouri beginning Wednesday.

Kansas City, St. Joseph, and Chillicothe could see highs approach the mid-90s by Thursday, while communities farther south, including Sedalia and Butler, may push toward 96. With humidity levels rising, heat index values could climb higher, increasing the risk of heat stress during outdoor activity.

Travel impacts from the light rain will be minimal, though drivers west of Kansas City should remain cautious on slick roads Monday night. Officials urge residents to stay hydrated and limit strenuous activity later in the week as temperatures surge above seasonal averages.

More updates are expected from the National Weather Service as rain chances fade and heat becomes the primary concern.
