Kansas City, Missouri – A surge of summer heat is tightening its grip on Missouri, with heat index values expected to approach or exceed 100° through the end of the week. Highs across the region will climb into the upper 80s and 90s, pushing conditions into dangerously warm territory, especially from Wednesday through Saturday.
According to the National Weather Service in Kansas City, the warming trend will continue through at least late week, with the most intense heat likely across areas such as Maryville, Chillicothe, and Kansas City. While rain chances remain low for most of the state, isolated non-severe thunderstorms could develop Wednesday morning across eastern Kansas and into northwest Missouri.
Cities including St. Joseph, Moberly, and Carrollton may see heat index values hovering near 100° as early as Wednesday afternoon. The pattern is expected to grow more unstable by the weekend, particularly in northern Missouri and northeast Kansas, increasing the chance of rainfall and possible thunderstorms into early next week.
Residents should limit outdoor activity during peak afternoon hours, stay hydrated, and check on vulnerable neighbors or pets. Heat-related illnesses become more likely as values climb above 95°.
Heat advisories may be issued later this week if trends continue upward.
