Kansas City, MO – A round of strong thunderstorms is expected to develop late Friday as a cold front moves through the region, bringing gusty winds, hail, and a drop in temperatures heading into the weekend.

According to the US National Weather Service in Kansas City, today will remain very warm and breezy, with highs in the low to mid-80s — well above normal for mid-October. The next chance of storms arrives Friday afternoon and evening, continuing into Friday night as the front sweeps east across Missouri and eastern Kansas.

Some of these storms may become strong to isolated severe, capable of producing wind gusts up to 60 mph and hail up to quarter size. The threat will be greatest Friday evening through early Saturday, especially across northwest and central Missouri.

Temperatures will turn cooler and more seasonable by Sunday, with highs dropping back into the 60s as drier air settles in.
