KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Kansas City faces another sweltering start to the week as temperatures climb to 95 degrees Monday with heat index values topping 103. The combination of extreme heat and humidity could make outdoor activities hazardous.
According to the National Weather Service in Pleasant Hill, the region stays sunny and hot Monday before storm chances build Tuesday afternoon and evening. A line of showers and thunderstorms could bring heavy downpours and gusty winds across Jackson, Clay, Platte, and surrounding counties. Rainfall totals may reach up to a quarter of an inch in spots, with locally higher amounts in thunderstorms.
Overnight lows will remain muggy, only dropping into the mid-70s, offering little relief. Drivers should use caution during evening commutes Tuesday as wet pavement and reduced visibility may slow traffic on I-70, I-35, and other major routes.
By Wednesday, conditions ease slightly with highs in the upper 80s and scattered showers possible before drying out into Thursday. Heat risks are expected to subside as cooler, clearer conditions move in late week.
Residents are urged to stay hydrated, avoid strenuous outdoor work during peak heat hours, and monitor updates as storm chances increase through Tuesday night.
