Kansas City, Mo. – Missourians planning outdoor celebrations for the Fourth of July can expect mostly dry skies through Thursday and into the holiday, but a shift to stormy weather is on the horizon by the weekend.

According to the National Weather Service in Kansas City, while an isolated storm can’t be ruled out on Independence Day, most areas—including St. Joseph, Kirksville, and Kansas City—are likely to remain dry through Friday evening. Scattered thunderstorms will begin moving into northern and central Missouri after midnight Friday, increasing in coverage through Saturday and Sunday.

Rain chances peak midday Saturday in areas like Chillicothe, Macon, and Warrensburg with precipitation probabilities nearing 60%. These storms may bring pockets of locally heavy rainfall, although a widespread washout is not expected. The risk will continue into Sunday with persistent storm chances across the state, especially during afternoon hours.

Temperatures will climb into the mid to upper 80s with humidity pushing heat index values into the upper 90s, particularly in Kansas City and Sedalia. Residents should limit outdoor activity during peak heat and ensure fireworks celebrations conclude early to avoid overnight storm development.

Storm chances persist into Sunday evening. Additional advisories could be issued as the weekend system develops.
