Kansas City Weather Alert: Heat Index Near 103 Through Sunday, Storm Chances by Monday

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Kansas City residents face a dangerous stretch of heat this weekend, with heat index values climbing as high as 103 degrees through Sunday before storm chances move in early next week.

According to the National Weather Service, Saturday’s high will reach 97 under sunny skies, with south winds gusting up to 18 mph. Sunday will bring more of the same, topping out near 96 degrees with heat index values as high as 102. Overnight lows will stay warm, holding near the upper 70s.

The heat will be felt across much of western Missouri, including Independence, Liberty, and Overland Park, where prolonged outdoor activity could lead to heat exhaustion or worse. Officials urge residents to limit time outside, drink plenty of water, and check on vulnerable neighbors and pets.

Relief begins Monday as clouds build and scattered thunderstorms develop after 1 p.m., carrying a 20% chance of rain. By Tuesday, storm chances increase to 30%, with highs easing into the low 90s before a midweek cooldown brings temperatures back into the 80s.

Heat advisories remain in effect through Sunday night, with updates expected as storm chances grow next week.
