Kansas City, MO – Dangerous heat is set to continue across Kansas and Missouri, as a Heat Advisory is in effect today and an Extreme Heat Watch looms over the region for the next several days. The heat could feel unbearable, with heat index values climbing as high as 107°F in some areas.
According to the National Weather Service, the Heat Advisory is in effect from noon to 9 p.m. today, while the Extreme Heat Watch will take hold from Tuesday afternoon through Thursday evening. Cities including St. Joseph, Chillicothe, Maryville, and Union Star in Missouri, as well as Atchison and Doniphan in Kansas, are expected to see intense heat today. The combination of high humidity and temperatures will push the heat index into the low 100s, causing significant discomfort and increasing the risk of heat-related illnesses.
For the upcoming days, extreme conditions will intensify, particularly from Tuesday through Thursday, when heat index values could reach up to 107°F. This extended period of sweltering heat will affect much of north-central and northwest Missouri, as well as northeast Kansas.
Residents are urged to stay indoors as much as possible, drink plenty of water, and check on vulnerable individuals like the elderly or those with medical conditions. If you must work outside, take frequent breaks in shaded or air-conditioned spaces. Remember that heat stroke is an emergency — call 9-1-1 if you or someone else shows symptoms.
The heat will persist for several days, with further updates expected as conditions develop.
