Kansas City, MO – Residents across the Kansas City region can expect another unseasonably warm and windy day Sunday, with gusts reaching up to 35 mph and temperatures climbing into the mid to upper 80s.

According to the National Weather Service in Kansas City, the combination of gusty winds and dry grass could create marginal fire weather concerns, particularly across open fields and agricultural areas in eastern Kansas and western Missouri.

Showers and thunderstorms are forecast to return overnight, mainly affecting northeast Kansas and northwest Missouri, including areas near Maryville, St. Joseph, and Falls City. Rain chances increase after midnight, with the heaviest downpours possible between 12 a.m. and 7 a.m. Monday.

Forecasters note that while no severe weather is expected, a few storms may bring locally heavy rainfall and gusty winds. Minor flooding from runoff could occur in low-lying areas.

Wind speeds are expected to gradually ease Monday morning as the system moves east, bringing slightly cooler and more humid conditions for the start of the week.
