Kansas City, MO – A frigid start to the week will give way to a brief but noticeable warm-up Tuesday before another surge of cold air arrives later this week, according to the National Weather Service in Kansas City.

Cold air holds firm today with highs only in the 20s and low 30s across portions of northern Missouri. Overnight lows will fall into the teens, with places like Chillicothe and Kirksville starting Tuesday near 10–14°F.

By Tuesday afternoon, temperatures rebound sharply. Most locations along and south of I-70 will warm into the 50s, while areas north of I-70 and east of I-35 stay in the 40s. This bump in temperatures will make Tuesday the warmest day of the week.

Breezy conditions move in Wednesday as another front approaches. Wind gusts could reach 30–40 mph, and highs will sit in the mid-30s to mid-40s. The cooler air settles in more decisively Thursday, with highs dropping into the upper 20s to mid-30s.

The coldest stretch arrives late week into the weekend, when well-below-normal temperatures take hold. Overnight lows will fall into the teens for many areas, with single-digit lows possible across northern Missouri.

Residents should prepare for rapidly changing conditions—from an early-week thaw to a sharp return to winter by week’s end.
