Kansas City, Missouri – Dangerously hot air will smother Kansas City on Tuesday, July 29, with heat index values soaring as high as 110°F across the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Pleasant Hill, a Heat Advisory remains in effect from 11 a.m. Monday through 7 p.m. Tuesday for northwest, north-central, and west-central Missouri, as well as eastern Kansas. Afternoon highs will climb to 97°F, but it’ll feel closer to 108–110°F due to oppressive humidity and light southerly winds.

Residents are urged to limit time outdoors, especially during peak heat hours from 1–6 p.m., and to stay hydrated and check on vulnerable neighbors and pets. Emergency management officials recommend avoiding strenuous activity, charging devices, and preparing for possible cooling center visits if air conditioning fails.

Travelers along I-70, US-71, and MO-291 should take precautions as car engines and pavement can overheat rapidly under extreme temperatures.

Looking ahead, the heat breaks Tuesday night as scattered storms roll in after 1 a.m. Wednesday. A more unsettled weather pattern returns midweek, bringing daily storm chances and some relief from the triple-digit heat.
