Kansas City Spring Weather Alert: Storm Chances and Flood Threats Increase Starting Friday into Easter Sunday

Kansas City, MO – A spring weather alert is in effect across much of Missouri as conditions turn more active heading into the weekend and early next week. Kansas City and surrounding counties should brace for a series of storms starting Friday, with rainfall, wind, and flooding risks peaking Sunday and Monday night.

According to the National Weather Service in Pleasant Hill, the best chances for strong to severe storms will occur Friday night, Sunday, and again Monday night. Winds may gust up to 34 mph, especially Thursday night into Friday. Localized flooding becomes a greater concern late Friday through early next week due to repeated rounds of moderate to heavy rainfall.

Residents in Jackson, Johnson, and surrounding counties should stay alert and prepare for changing conditions, especially along I-70 and near low-lying flood-prone areas.

  • Friday: Mostly sunny early, then showers by afternoon. High near 70°F. Winds southwest 10–18 mph.
  • Friday Night: Showers likely, possibly a thunderstorm. Chance of rain 70%.
  • Saturday: Showers likely, mainly in the morning. High around 49°F.
  • Easter Sunday: Showers with a chance of thunder after 1 p.m. High 58°F.
  • Monday Night: Rain continues, with a flooding threat. Chance of rain 80%.
  • Tuesday: Mostly sunny early, then showers return. High 74°F.
