Kansas City, Missouri – Drivers and residents across Missouri should prepare for severe thunderstorms Monday afternoon into early Tuesday, bringing the threat of large hail, damaging winds, and isolated tornadoes.

According to the National Weather Service in Kansas City, light rain will clear by midday Monday, setting the stage for a conditional risk of severe storms later in the day. If storms develop during the afternoon, they could quickly intensify, with the highest threat lingering into Monday night and early Tuesday morning. Areas most at risk include central and northern Missouri, with a higher concentration of activity likely south of the Missouri River.

Localized flash flooding is also possible, especially from Tuesday into Wednesday, as heavy rain persists. Key highways like I-70 and I-35 could be affected by ponding water or sudden downpours. Residents are urged to monitor local alerts, secure loose outdoor items, and avoid unnecessary travel during periods of severe weather.

This is Missouri’s first significant severe threat of late spring 2025, echoing patterns seen in April 2021. Warnings could be upgraded or expanded as conditions evolve, with more updates expected later Monday.
