Kansas City, Missouri – Smoke from distant wildfires is pushing into the Kansas City area, creating hazy skies and dropping air quality to unhealthy levels this afternoon and into Saturday. Residents sensitive to air pollution, including children and those with respiratory issues, should take extra precautions and limit outdoor activities.

According to the National Weather Service in Kansas City, smoke aloft is expected to give the sky a “milky” look, with lingering haze through Saturday. Seasonally cool temperatures will keep highs in the upper 70s and low 80s, paired with low humidity, offering some comfort despite the air quality concerns.

Communities across Jackson, Clay, and Platte counties will notice reduced visibility, especially during the afternoon. Outdoor events, sports, and travel may be impacted. The NWS urges everyone to check local air quality readings, run air purifiers if possible, and avoid strenuous activity outdoors until the smoke clears.

The mild pattern won’t last. By Monday, a warming trend returns as highs climb into the mid-80s and could push into the 90s by late next week. Updates on air quality and temperature shifts will be posted as conditions change.
