Kansas City endured a frigid January, ranking as the 23rd coldest in 137 years. The month’s average temperature was 4.7 degrees below normal.

According to the National Weather Service, the city recorded 2.06 inches of precipitation. This total was 0.90 inches above average, making it the 28th wettest January ever. Snowfall also exceeded expectations, reaching 13.4 inches, which is 8.5 inches above normal. This ranked as the eighth snowiest January in recorded history.

Residents faced bitter cold throughout the month, with multiple days dipping below freezing. The extended chill created hazardous road conditions and increased energy demand. Meteorologists predict a potential warming trend in February, but winter’s grip remains strong.

Officials advise residents to stay updated on weather alerts and prepare for continued winter conditions. As February begins, Kansas City remains watchful for more snow and cold temperatures.
