Kansas City, MO – Showers and storms are expected to return late Monday night into Tuesday morning, with the potential for a few to reach severe levels, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Kansas City.
The first round of storms may develop in northwest Missouri overnight as cells track out of southeast Nebraska. Forecasters say damaging winds and quarter-sized hail are possible if storms strengthen as they move into the state. For much of western Missouri, activity is expected later Tuesday morning as storms spread eastward out of Kansas.
According to the NWS, widespread severe weather is not likely, but isolated instances of strong to damaging winds could occur. This may affect commuters in the Kansas City Metro area Tuesday morning, where periods of heavy rain and gusty winds could slow travel.
The timing of the strongest storms is projected after 1 a.m. in northwest Missouri and after 5 a.m. in the Kansas City Metro. Officials urge residents to allow extra time for the morning drive and to have multiple ways to receive weather alerts overnight.
