KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Fall storms are rolling through early Friday, but brighter skies are close behind as Kansas City heads toward a warm, sunny October weekend. Roads along I-70 and I-435 may be slick through the morning commute, but improving weather will make for great fall outings and pumpkin patch trips by Saturday.

According to the National Weather Service in Pleasant Hill, scattered thunderstorms will taper by late morning as clouds gradually break apart. South winds near 10 mph will push afternoon highs toward 80°F, followed by a clear, calm night in the upper 50s. Lighter winds and drier air return Saturday, making ideal conditions for fall events, farmers markets, and outdoor sports across Jackson, Clay, and Platte counties.

Sunday brings another bump in warmth, with highs near 86°F and plenty of sun—an excellent setup for leaf-viewing drives or early Halloween decorating. Moisture and clouds creep back in by Columbus Day, though temperatures remain mild in the 70s before a subtle cooldown midweek.

Drivers should stay alert early Friday morning for ponding on highways and slower travel on I-70 and U.S. 71. Residents are advised to keep phones charged for any storm-related alerts and to delay outdoor plans until storms clear. The second half of October looks drier overall, but forecasters hint at a colder pattern later in the month that could trigger the first frost across northern Missouri.
