Kansas City, MO – Residents across northern and central Missouri should prepare for the coldest night of the season as temperatures fall near or below freezing, according to the US National Weather Service Kansas City MO.

Forecasters say a widespread freeze is expected across the region Saturday night, with freezing temperatures possible as early as tonight in northern Missouri. Areas along and north of Highway 36 are most at risk for subfreezing lows.

While today will be pleasant with highs near 60°F, conditions will turn colder and breezier on Saturday, with highs only around 50°F. Overnight temperatures are projected to plunge into the upper 20s and low 30s, signaling the end of the growing season for much of the area.

A 30% chance of a light sprinkle or shower may occur late this afternoon, mainly around the Kansas City metro, before dry and clear weather takes over for the weekend. A gradual warming trend is expected to begin early next week.

Residents are urged to protect sensitive plants, outdoor plumbing, and pets from the cold.
