Kansas City, Missouri – Strong north winds and steadily falling temperatures will make it feel sharply colder across the Kansas City metro today, with brisk conditions lingering into Friday and a low-end chance for light wintry precipitation later in the week.
According to the National Weather Service in Kansas City, temperatures that start near 40 degrees Wednesday morning will continue to drop through the day as gusty northerly winds pull colder air into western Missouri. Wind gusts between 25 and 35 mph are expected at times, with isolated higher gusts possible, especially in open areas and along major roadways.
The chilly air mass settles in tonight, with lows dropping into the teens across the metro and surrounding counties. While Thursday will bring a brief break from the strongest winds, colder conditions will remain in place, keeping daytime highs near 40 degrees under increasing cloud cover.
By Friday, winds are expected to strengthen again, with gusts potentially reaching 30 to 40 mph. That combination of wind and cold air could push wind chills into the single digits during the morning hours, creating uncomfortable conditions for commuters, outdoor workers, and anyone traveling on elevated roadways or bridges.
Light wintry precipitation is possible early Friday, mainly across northeast Missouri, with flurries also possible Saturday. No snow accumulation is expected, but brief slick spots cannot be ruled out during early morning hours if temperatures dip low enough.
Residents are encouraged to dress in layers, secure loose outdoor items, and use caution when driving high-profile vehicles during peak wind periods. With temperatures remaining below seasonal averages into the weekend, additional updates or advisories could be issued if wind or precipitation trends increase late in the week.
