Kansas City, Missouri – Cold temperatures and low wind chills are affecting the Kansas City area Tuesday morning, with a gradual warming trend expected later this week, according to the National Weather Service.

As of early Tuesday, conditions at Kansas City Downtown Airport showed clear skies with a temperature of 17 degrees. Light southwest winds were producing wind chill values near 9 degrees Fahrenheit, creating a cold start for commuters and early-morning travelers.

According to the National Weather Service forecast, Tuesday will remain mostly sunny with a high near 43 degrees. Winds are expected to stay light through the day, allowing temperatures to recover steadily during the afternoon hours. Despite the daytime warming, cold conditions return quickly after sunset.

Tuesday night temperatures are forecast to drop to around 28 degrees under mostly clear skies. Wednesday brings continued sunshine and milder conditions, with highs near 49 degrees. However, Wednesday night lows fall back to around 26 degrees as clear skies allow temperatures to cool efficiently.

New Year’s Day is expected to be partly sunny, with highs near 39 degrees. Overnight lows Thursday night dip to around 30 degrees, keeping overnight conditions below freezing. Friday will be mostly cloudy with highs near 42 degrees, followed by another cold night with lows near 25 degrees.

Dry weather is expected throughout the period, with no significant precipitation forecast. While road conditions should remain generally favorable, repeated overnight freezes may create localized slick spots on untreated surfaces during early morning hours.

The cold mornings may impact commuters, students, and outdoor workers across the Kansas City metro area, particularly during early travel periods. Residents are encouraged to dress in layers, limit prolonged exposure to cold air, and ensure pets are protected during freezing nights.
