Kansas City, Missouri – Light snow could develop after sunset Friday, with up to a 40 percent chance of flakes near I-70 and I-35 that may create isolated slick spots overnight into early Saturday.

According to the National Weather Service in Kansas City, very light snow chances will slide across eastern Kansas and western Missouri mainly after sunset, with the highest probabilities west of downtown toward Topeka and Lawrence. The probability of more than one-half inch remains below 15 percent across most of the metro, signaling minor accumulation at most.

Most roads will remain mainly wet.

However, pavement temperatures will fall into the 20s overnight, allowing brief slick spots to develop on untreated bridges and overpasses along I-435, US-69, and I-29. Any snow that falls is expected to be light and intermittent, limiting widespread travel impacts during the late-night hours.

North and west of Kansas City, including St. Joseph and Maryville, snow chances range from 20 to 30 percent, while areas south and east toward Sedalia and Butler see lower probabilities.

Drivers heading out late Friday night or before sunrise Saturday should reduce speed on elevated roadways and watch for isolated icy patches.

Cold air lingers through Monday, with highs in the 30s and lows in the teens and 20s. Temperatures rebound into the 40s and 50s beginning Tuesday, helping improve road conditions region-wide. No winter weather advisories are currently in effect, and impacts should remain minor through early Saturday morning.
